Special Event Focus: Celebrating Cultural Day
The school is eagerly preparing for an upcoming Cultural Day event
— a cherished occasion that brings together students, teachers, and parents in
a vibrant celebration of diversity and unity. This event is designed to foster
a sense of belonging among all learners by encouraging them to embrace and take
pride in their cultural heritage.
In previous years, our learners showcased different cultures, mostly focused
on East African traditions. Each class gave their best — preparing over weeks
of practice, brainstorming ideas, and collaborating both as groups and
individuals. On the big day, they presented wonderful performances filled with
joy and harmony. They danced with pride and sang in unison, bringing their
cultures to life with passion and energy.
We still fondly remember the remarkable cultural performance by last year’s
Grade 8 class, as well as the delightful skit by the kindergarteners that
reflected a blend of tradition and humor. Their performance was unforgettable —
a crowd favorite and a perfect example of how creativity, culture, and
confidence come together on stage.
As this year’s event approaches, we can’t help but wonder what direction our
learners will take. Will they explore Asian culture? Maybe take inspiration
from Western traditions? Or surprise us with something entirely new? Regardless
of the theme, one thing is always certain — no matter what culture is
represented, our students always leave the audience smiling with admiration,
laughter, and wonder.
Cultural Day plays a key role in nurturing mutual respect and appreciation
for the diverse backgrounds within our school community. It creates a safe and
inclusive environment where learners can express who they are, learn from one
another, and build friendships beyond cultural boundaries. Most importantly, it
helps discourage cultural bias or exclusion by promoting empathy,
understanding, and pride in one’s identity.
This celebration also supports two essential National Goals of
Education:
·
Respect for and
Development of Cultural Heritage, by encouraging learners to value and
showcase their traditions.
·
Promotion of
International Consciousness, by fostering awareness of and
appreciation for the wider global community.
The school is proud to host this event as a platform to affirm that every
learner is welcomed, respected, and loved — and that our diversity is truly
our strength.
